Tatra Mountain - make the first step into a winter adventure!

The Winter ABC SKILLS course is a great opportunity to step into wild winter terrain for the first time and learn what skills are important and needed to survive. You’ll learn to use equipment like crampons and an ice axe. While having a great time honing those skills, you will gain important winter awareness and knowledge. This course will give you strong confidence to start your winter hikes independently.  
Course program:
Day 1
Meeting at Zakopane at 10:00. Trekking to the Mountain hut. Crampons and ice axe skills, self-arrest practice, a workshop about winter awareness. Finish time around 17:00.
Day 2
Meeting in Zakopane at 10:00. Trekking day, ascent of the peak, winter navigation and map skills, emergency snow cave/shelter. Finish time around 17:00.

Flights and transport

Please book your flight to Kraków airport. Why not combine this course with a visit to this historic city? Stay in Kraków few days! From Kraków, you can take a regular bus to Zakopane (2h). To maximize your time and have stress-free travel we strongly recommend coming one day before and flying back the day after the course. Zakopane is a busy resort and traffic jams occur very often despite very good transport.

Our meeting

We will collect you from Zakopane each day at 10:00. After the day in the mountain, we will drop you of back to Zakopane.

Your are staying in Zakopane

You can book any hotel/hostel you wish in Zakopane. We will arrange a daily meeting point.

Instructors/Guide

The course is run by a very experienced English-speaking member of our Team. Instructor-to-student ratio: 1:6. Please note that you should buy travel insurance which covers high risk sports for the duration of the course.

Experience You need:

To be able to take part in this course you should have summer walking experience. For the second day a good fitness level is a must.

Gear You need:

winter boots B1, waterproof jacket and trousers, softshell trousers, warm jacket, base layers top and bottom, warm fleece, 2 pairs of warm socks, warm five-fingers gloves, thin inner gloves, hat, gaiters, head torch, flask, 35l backpack.
